Student Technology Projects
Read about some of the exciting technology projects going on at Edgewood currently:

Kindergarten Graphs (April 08)
Kindergarten students are using the laptops in their classroom to create graphs. They counted the number of different colored skittles in one bag and used Graph Club to show their results.

Grade 3 Math at the Snack Shop (year-long)
This year’s third grade students are participating in an exciting real-world math project called Math at the Snack Shop.  Students organize and operate a healthy snack shop where they sell snacks before school and practice making change as customers purchase their snacks.  They also practice math skills by taking inventory each week and tallying what needs to be purchased for restocking.  They track their sales and produce reports in Microsoft Excel to share with the class.  Proceeds from the snack shop will go to our community partner Feed My Starving Children

Grade 2 Gets Ready to Garden (April-May 08)
Second graders will be once again tending to our school butterfly gardens. In addition to composting and planting, students will be using computers to create their own garden stake labels, send e-post cards to share information about the garden, and create field guides for plants in the garden.

Grade 4 Pond Study (year long)
4th grade students conduct a year long study of a nearby pond. In December they participate in an online collaborative project called, Bucket Buddies to share their data with others. See the results...

You can hear podcasts about their monthly trips to the pond at Radio on the Edge.

Kindergarten Digital Alphabet Books (year long)
Students in kindergarten are creating an alphabet book using a software program called, Media Blender. They illustrate each letter of the alphabet with paint and write the letter and a word on each of the alphabet pages. These books will be printed as well as viewable online.

Grade 6 Clay Animation (March-April 08)
6th graders begin to learn how animation works and create a clay animation to demonstrate a health or science concept.

Grade 5 Colony Webquest (Feb - April 08)
Students are going back in time to learn what it was like to live in the colonial period. Using a webquest (online research adventure) created by the 5th grade teachers, students will research and create a video interview with a time traveler from the colonial times.

Grade 2 Weather Watchers (Monthly starting in December)
Students make daily weather observations and graph the results using a program called, Graph Club.

Grade 1 Tooth Tally Project (Feb - April 08)
Each 1st grade classroom at Edgewood is connected with 10 other 1st grade classrooms around the country to find out just how many teeth 1st graders are losing. Since February they have been tallying the number of teeth lost and creating a graph on the computer to compare Minnesota to other states like New Jersey and California. See the Tooth Fairy according to 1st graders:
