Edgewood students and staff tune in every morning at 9:10 AM to hear the morning announcements broadcast live from our EWTV News studio located in the Media Center office.

Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the PTA, we are very excited to have a new look to our EWTV News. We have new technology which allows us to project images behind our anchors through a green screen or chroma key technique for blending two images in which a color from one image is removed (or made transparent) revealing another image behind it. We can have our anchors look like they are reporting live from the Colleseum in Rome, a beach in Hawaii or even the moon. During |

our weather forecast, we project a sunny, cloudy or rainy image with the Current, High and Low temperature readings in Fahrenheit and Celsius degrees.
Students create Powerpoint slides using photographs, clip art and other images to enhance the broadcast. The news crew is made up of two news anchors, a weather anchor, a computer operator, a switcher, a mixer, a cue card person, and a camera operator/director.

The news anchors read the daily news, announce birthdays, the lunch menu and any other special happenings in the school. The weather anchor looks up the weather report on www.weatherbug.com and reads the daily weather report. The computer person prepares the background photos and clip art. The switcher changes from camera one and camera two and switches from the green screen to the background pictures selected by the computer person. The mixer works with the switcher and adjusts the volume on the mixing board. The cue card operator makes sure the cue card powerpoints are correct |

with the proper lunch menu, birthdays and special announcements. The director fills in wherever they are needed, aligns the two cameras and records the daily news broadcast.
Mrs. Peel is regularly featured on the news and with our new technology we have projected her in the hallway, out on the playground and even by the busses so she can announce safety information.

We often have guest announcers promoting various happenings in the school. These may include advertisements for the school store, the "Be the Change", a service organization of our school and other features, happenings or visitors at Edgewood School.

Every sixth grade student has an opportunity to be a part of a news crew. Students rotate through the various positions each day they serve on their team. The news crews rotate every two weeks. Fifth grade students apply to be on the news crew and these students become leaders in their sixth grade year. In this way we have experienced broadcasters to start the school year.

learn communication skills, team-working and indirectly they learn Powerpoint and various operational skills related to producing a live, daily news broadcast. It is wonderful to see students shine as they anchor or do the important behind the scenes work.
