Ms. Moran, Mr. Veth and Mr. MacPhail
have planned many fun learning activities and field trips throughout
the year. As a Science, Math, and Technology school we offer
event based learning, science inquiry, and technology
integration. Click on the links below to find out more about our
special projects.
Monarchs in the Classroom Students observe the life cycle
of the monarch butterfly in their classroom. We then collect and
analyze monarch migration data to determine the factors that affect the
migration.
Digital Photography 6th grade students learn photographic
techniques throughout the year. The photographs are displayed in "Photo
Galleries" three times during the year.
Science Units We have eight science units that introduce students to a wide variety of science topics.
Lego Robots/Mars Students learn engineering and
programming skills while working with Legos and laptops. We also learn
about the "red planet," Mars, while preparing for the Robot Competition
in December.
Research Projects Students research a topic using a variety of sources. They take notes
and organize them to create a written report. The reports are presented to the class
using a technology of the student's choice (PowerPoint, brochure, newsletter, website).
Clay Animation Students demonstrate knowledge of a science or health topic by creating a clay animation.
Pond Day Students spend a day in the spring exploring the pond using a variety
of scientific tools. They record memories of the day using our digital
cameras.
McDougal Littell is our new math curriculum for 6th, 7th and 8th
grades. The McDougal Littell website is loaded with
everything from games and animations to practice problems and homework
help. You can even access an online textbook here! Check it all out at Classzone.com.
Voyageur Environmental Center
We will visit Voyageur Environmental Center in the fall, winter and spring. Look for a permission slips in September, January, and May.
DARE Program at Edgewood
6th grade students learn how to
resist negative peer pressure, including drugs and alcohol. The
National Guard helicopter lands on our playground, and the pilots
encourage our students to work hard to achieve their goals.
